Training and early career

Italian designer and architect Maurizio Duranti was born in Florence. He moved to Genoa for college, where he graduated with top marks in architecture and industrial design in 1976. Some years later he moved to Milan. Duranti began his career as a lecturer in the faculty of architecture at Genoa and at the ‘European Institute of Design’ in Milan, which kept him busy for some five years. After that he felt he had done enough teaching and focused fully on industrial design and architecture. Maurizio Duranti keeps busy with architectural projects and organizes various exhibitions for leading companies such as Villeroy & Boch.

Maurizio Duranti’s style

Duranti has won various prizes for his designs, such as the ‘Good Design Award’ in the US and an honorable mention in the 18th edition of Compasso d’Oro. Moreover many of his designs can be admired in museums. Duranti is often lauded for his thoughtful choice of materials. He also infuses every design with a dash of irony.
